Are You Super Bowl Ready?

A #SuperBowl party has been a tradition in our family for 20 years. It started before the marriage and continues today.

The "party" has changed throughout the years...but it's been enjoyable at every stage.

It had it's high school/college age series where our older siblings would buy us beer.

When that series was canceled, the party morphed to a working girl's "friends and colleague's" event. These parties topped 100 people! Friends out the wazoo!

After that season in life, we moved into the newly married/young parents with babies era. That's where everyone left at halftime so they could put themselves, I mean their #babies, to bed. The head count began to diminish...

Now, we've come full circle. Our #children are #kids and #teens. They want to be in the basement; far away from us old, uncool people who know nothing, playing video games and texting. They love to ingest sugary and indulgent foods and live for the "Super Bowl party" which holds all these desirable elements in one convenient location. We can count on two hands who we invite.

This year we'll be preparing all our faves like our traditional #FootballCake. The kids love to help bake this. I have one that likes chocolate and one that likes vanilla. I used to color vanilla icing with brown food color atop a yellow cake. Now, I use chocolate cake and chocolate icing and do a second #FootballFieldCake with vanilla cake and cream cheese icing colored green for the "grass". Let the kids decorate it with Twizzlers for end zones, licorice lines and M&M's to represent players on the field.

We have all the  highly sought after snacks like pigs in a blanket but ours are turkey dogs in crescent rolls. We make taco meat and pair it with tortilla chips and of course pizza, beer and soda. We throw in some fresh fruit for the dieters, peanut, gluten and lactose intolerant and paleo peeps. Otherwise, special dieters are asked to bring foods that fit their specific needs.

We also do some clothes shopping...the kids love pick their Super Bowl team jersey. We always hope it's one of our teams but most times, they are wearing another's colors. We have 2 #Jets, 1 #Giants and 1 #SanFransico #49ers fans.

This year, we're going the alternate route. The kids are donning #RedHotChiliPeppers #Tshirts. We're psyched about #BrunoMars and the #ChiliPeppers playing the #HalftimeShow and we're showing our love.

Have a baby or toddler who needs to get suited up for #SuperBowlXLVIII?
