Saw Queensryche last night at a local venue, The Starland Ballroom, in Sayreville, NJ. Most rockers know Sayreville as the birthplace of the band #BonJovi. And, clubs like Starland keep rock alive.
If you're a "Ryche" fan, you're aware there are two Queensryches. We saw Queensryche with Geoff Tate (and Rudy Sarzo). The other Queensryche consists of original band members who fired Tate and replaced him with Todd La Torre in 1997.
The show was special not only because Geoff Tate was singing but he was portraying the Operation Mindcrime album of 1988. This being the 25th anniversary of their most successful album, Tate surrounded himself with amazing talent like bassist Rudy Sarzo formerly of Ozzy Osbourne/Quiet Riot/Whitesnake/Dio, drummer Bobby Blotzer from Ratt, guitarist Kelly Gray, original Queensrÿche/Myth and keyboardist Randy Gane, also, Myth.
Start to finish, the story of Nikki built just like it always had from bedridden catatonic to heroin addicted assassin to befriending Sister Mary, former prostitute turned nun who begins to make him question his choices. When forged upon by Dr. X to kill Father William and Mary, Nikki completes the former but fails the latter only later to find Mary dead and himself committed to an insane asylum. And, that's where the story begins again...
Queensryche with Geoff Tate has tour dates at fun venues throughout the United States all summer long. If you have a chance to catch a show, do so.
